da spicy bet: Kiko Casilla’s FA hearing is due this week, and while we don’t know what’s going to happen it looks likely that he’s going to be banned.
da apostebet: We’ve previously heard Phil Hay say that the likelihood is that Casilla will be banned, and now Graham Smyth is explaining exactly why that is.
What’s been said then?
Smyth was talking about the case on the latest edition of the Inside Elland Road Podcast.
“I get the sinking feeling that it’s going to be one of these really, really messy ones because there’s not going to be a conclusion that is satisfactory for all,” Smyth said (Inside Elland Road 17/2/20 32:30).

“The FA’s standard of proof is balance of probability, so if there is two people saying that somebody said it and one person saying ‘I did not say it’ then the likelihood is that that person gets found guilty and the charge of racism sticks.
“Now that is not at all to suggest that the two people are lying, but it’s not the same standard of proof as in a criminal trial, and Leeds have made the point they feel that the allegations are of a serious enough nature that it should be innocent until proven guilty, but such as it is that is the standard that the FA will use.”
Wait and see
Both Jonathan Leko and Macauley Bonne have accused the Spaniard of racial abuse, but the goalkeeper does have people in his corner as it’s recently been revealed that Eddie Nketiah will testify on behalf of the stopper.
Smyth says that this could get messy, and it really looks like it could when differing accounts on what happened that day are likely to be put to the FA.
Balance of probability isn’t the best way to resolve these issues, and Leeds were probably right when saying that this should have been treated in the same way a criminal trial would have been.
Whatever the outcome is, we can only hope that the right decision is made and justice is served.
