da doce: As reported by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Manchester United had a move for Gareth Bale green-lit by Real Madrid this summer, only for the player himself to reject the massive move.
What’s the story?
da bet esporte: The Red Devils made some big signings this summer with the likes of Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku making the switch to Old Trafford, but it seems a rather giant transfer just eluded them.
The Gareth Bale to United rumour was one which rumbled on all summer and according to the new reports, there might have been more to them than meets the eye.
Don Balon say that Jose Mourinho convinced the United hierarchy to spend €100m on the Wales international, a move Zinedine Zidane sanctioned so they could move for Kylian Mbappe.
However, the outlet says Bale refused, unwilling to give up the major honours that playing for Madrid brings him.
Would he have improved United?
This season there’s no doubting that Manchester United look like a formidable force in the English Premier League. Three comfortable wins from their opening three fixtures have given the support massive confidence about the season ahead and a potential resurgence that could bring them back to the trophy winning days under Sir Alex Ferguson.
There’s also no doubt though that Gareth Bale could have added something special to the United attack, giving them a real presence on the left hand side and potentially striking up a lethal partnership with the likes of Romelu Lukaku.
Still, if the player didn’t want to move then there’s little point dwelling on it. Perhaps their paths will cross in the future or perhaps fans will always be left thinking ‘what if’.
