da bwin: According to reports in the Daily Mail, Brighton and Hove Albion have had an £8.4m bid rejected for Gent winger and Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion target Moses Simon, with his club rating him at £13m.
da imperador bet: The Daily Mail says that the 22-year-old attacker is a target for the Premier League sides following a number of eye-catching performances for the Belgian outfit, and he was particularly impressive for his team in their two-legged Europa League tie against Spurs earlier this year.
The news of Brighton’s bid would seem to suggest that a move to England for the Nigeria international is looking more and more likely ahead of the new season, and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino may well be tempted to make an offer for the wide-man.
The Argentine boss may well feel that the north London outfit are in need of some attacking reinforcements with the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou struggling to make an impressing following moves last summer.
Here are three reasons Tottenham must win the race to sign Simon…
Statistics
While Tottenham got to have a closer look at Simon when he starred against them in the Europa League, they will be well aware of the impact he made for Gent last season.
The 22-year-old winger scored five goals and provided a further seven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for the Belgian outfit last term, and the fact that he is quick, skilful and can play out wide or as a secondary striker mean he has the versatility to make a real impact for Spurs’ first team.
Injuries
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham duo Son Heung-Min and Erik Lamela are unlikely to be fit for the start of the new season as they recover from arm and knee injuries respectively, and it could leave Mauricio Pochettino short in attacking areas.
The Argentine boss may well be looking to bring in a new player that can fill in as the pair return to fitness, but would be willing to appear from the substitutes’ bench on their return.
Simon would appear to match that criteria as he would be looking to make an impact for a big Premier League team, and the move could be useful for both parties.
Price tag/Potential
In a summer transfer window where we have seen hugely inflated prices, Tottenham could be tempted by the opportunity to sign Simon for just £13m.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy loves to get value for money when he brings players to the club and having impressed against the north London outfit last season, the 22-year-old is exciting, unpredictable and certainly looks to have all of the attributes to make a big impression for the club in the Premier League and in Europe for many years to come.
