Bundesliga journalist Christian Falk has dropped a short and sweet 12-word update on the potential transfer of Erling Haaland to Newcastle United.
The Lowdown: Speculation
There has been a lot of speculation and talk since the takeover at St. James’ Park by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium from a number of outlets and pundits over whether Haaland is now a realistic target for the North East club.
The Borussia Dortmund superstar is attracting plenty of interest from some of the top clubs in European football, but with the Magpies’ new mega-rich owners, could he be tempted by the new project on Tyneside?
The Latest: No consideration
As per Falk, Haaland is not considering a move to the Toon at this moment in time: “Not true is that Erling Haaland is considering a transfer to NUFC”.
The Verdict: Unrealistic
Even though NUFC now have unbelievable riches available to them, a move for Haaland still seems very unrealistic at this moment in time.
The striker has been simply phenomenal since joining Dortmund, averaging more than a goal per game over the past three seasons in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt).
Newcastle cannot offer him UEFA Champions League football currently, which is where a player of his calibre should be playing, and do not yet have a team that they can build around him.
Thus, they need to bring in a new squad of talent first of all before they can think about trying to persuade the Norway international to join up down the line.
