da bet esporte: Leeds have been dealt a colossal blow in their pursuit of Championship star Jarrod Bowen.
da fazobetai: The £20m winger had been the subject of interest from the Whites but Phil Hay has claimed they won’t be one of the teams to contest his signature in January.
What’s he said?
Bowen has been in mesmeric form this season, adding 15 goals to the 22 he scored in 2018/19.
The Hull forward is the second top scorer in the Championship, quickly becoming one of the most in-demand players in the country.
Leeds were one of the team’s reportedly interested in landing the 22-year-old in the winter window but due to West Brom’s finances, it appears as though they are at the front of the queue. Newcastle are another side who are in the chase.
However, given the £15m outlay Leeds are expected to pay for Helder Costa next summer, signing another expensive player seems out of the question for them.
In his column for The Athletic, Hay had the following to say:
“Leeds United like Bowen’s talent too, but will not take part in any of the expected jostling for his signature next month. West Brom’s nearest challengers have nothing like the money needed to acquire him this time after their biggest investment in the last transfer window was diverted elsewhere.”
Hardly a surprise
Bringing Bowen to Elland Road would have been a massive statement by Victor Orta and Leeds’ top officials.
Considering his goals tally this season, he could have gone a long way to helping the Whites achieve promotion back to the Premier League.
However, the fact of the matter is that Leeds simply don’t have the funding required to do much at all in January.
It would be a great surprise if any permanent signings arrived at all. Orta has already stated that it’s set to be a quiet window for the west Yorkshire outfit, while Angus Kinnear has claimed that only if an exceptional opportunity becomes available will they be active.
Because of profit and sustainability regulations, Leeds were forced into acquiring loan signings last summer.
Six of them walked through the door, the most prominent of which was Costa. A total of £15m will be paid for his services at the end of the season and that is arguably the biggest sticking point in bringing someone like Bowen to Leeds.
A true test for any Leeds fan: Can you match these iconic images with the right results?
Andrea Radrizzani has previously commented that the club are still right on the threshold in terms of financial fair play. With that in mind, they have to play things cautiously.
In other Leeds news, the Whites could sign the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic if they get promoted…
