da dobrowin:
da betsul: Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers told BT Sport on Sunday that his squad was ‘very, very bloated’, meaning January could be the perfect time for Leeds to make a move for Dedryck Boyata.
What’s the situation?
Leeds started the season in blistering form under new boss Marcelo Bielsa, but under recent weeks their high-tempo and high-pressing game has been less effective as the squad has tired slightly, and they have now slipped to third in the Championship table.
The Whites have also had to contend with a growing injury list that has included key players Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez and Gaetano Berardi as well as big-money new signing Patrick Bamford.
Bielsa has always liked to work with small squads throughout his career, but the demands of the Championship mean that he will surely have to bring in at least one or two players in January with the quality to get them promoted to the Premier League.
Financial gamble
This may mean splashing the cash a bit, but the reward of promotion would certainly justify the spend. Boyata is only valued at £1.8m by Transfermarkt, but he has worked his way back into the starting line-up at Parkhead and would surely command a more considerable fee even if his contract does run out at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old is also a full Belgian international and made three appearances at the World Cup in Russia during the summer for Roberto Martinez’s side.
His conduct in the summer as he looked to force a move away from Celtic may not have been the greatest, but it shows that he is keen for a move back to England and Leeds are currently a club on the up once again after Bielsa’s appointment.
So, Leeds fans, would you like to see your side splash out on Boyata in January? Have your say by voting in the poll below.
